Sasaram : Maya Devi, mother of a 3 year old daughter, was burnt to death at village Karmaini under Natwar police station in Rohtas district on May 5, 2017, evening, allegedly by her in-laws for a gold chain and Rs 50, 000 cash as dowry. A named FIR has been lodged with Natwar police station on the statement of deceased’s father against five persons including her husband.

SHO, Natwar police station, Ranjeet Kumar said that Pachratan Ram of village Dhobdihia under Nasariganj police station in Rohtas district had married his daughter Maya Devi to Dharmendra Ram, son of Ram Kailash Ram of village Karmaini  in 2013 and ever since was being tortured by her  in-laws tortured for a gold chain and Rs 50, 000 cash as dowry.

When their demands were not fulfilled, her in-laws allegedly burnt Maya to death on May 5, the SHO said. When they were going to perform her last rites, Maya’s father and other family members came to know about the incident and immediately informed police. But all the accused had escaped by the time police reached the village. Police later brought the body to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
