Patna: A division bench of Supreme Court consisting of Justice Deepak Mishra and Justice Amitava Roy on Monday directed the CBI to complete the probe into Siwan journalist Rajdev Ranjan murder case within three month. Rajdev, who was a journalist with a Hindi daily, was gunned down at Siwan allegedly by supporters of controversial RJD leader Mohammad Shahabuddin.
Asha Ranjan, widow of Rajdev, had filed a petition in the Supeme Court last month alleging the CBI was yet to start the probe. Two persons, both supporters of Shahabuddin, are named as accused in the case. They are Mohammad Kaif and Mohammad Javed.
The SC sought a report from district and sessions judge of Siwan to confirm whether the two were proclaimed offenders on the day they were seen with the RJD leader Bihar health minister Tej Pratap, and former Siwan MP Shahabuddin. The Supreme Court also observed no accused in this case would seek bail on the statutory ground that chargesheets have not been filed in the case.
