Sand workers, Ara residents protest non-availability of sand

Ara : Hundreds of residents of Ara, shopkeepers and sand labourers blocked the Ara-Patna main road near Moti Tola under Town police station in Bhojpur district on December 9, 2017. They burnt tyres and paralyzed the movement of vehicles on the road. They were protesting the non-availability of sand for the last six months and were raising slogans against Bhojpur district administration. The blockade continued for several hours.

The sand labourers said that the ban on sand mining had rendered them jobless while the common general people were unable to build their houses. The protesters alleged that the sand was being sent to Patna from Bhojpur and said that they would be compelled to launch an aggressive agitation if sand supply is not restored immediately.
