Patna : World No 5 in WTA rankings and reigning US Open Champion Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, and World No 27 Lesia Tsurenko, 29, Ukraine, entered the women’s quarter-finals of Brisbane International, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, on January 1, 2018.

Tsurenko beat World No 283 Kimberly Birrell, Australia, 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 16 firing 5 Aces. Birrel committed 4 double faults to 3 by Tsurenko. But, Tsurenko won 5 break points while Birrell won 3.Birrell had upset World No 10 Daria Kasatkina, Russia, in the first round.

Osaka beat World No 247 Destanee Aiava, 18, Australia,  6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16 firing 9 Aces in the match. Aiava committed 4 double faults to 1 by Osaka, who won 3 break points. Osaka also won 5 games in a row in the match.
