Motihari: Acting on a tip off Keshav Kumar Jha, district excise superintendent, East Champaran, raided a line hotel near Kotawa on Tuesday and seized 2 kg Doda (opium) from the hotel and arrested one Deep Singh of Punjab, a supplier of this psychotropic substance.
Dilip Singh is being quizzed by police and other security agencies because this district located on Indo-Nepal border has witnessed almost 40 percent increase in sale of psychotropic substances like heroin,smack, ganja , doda etc.
Deepa Singh,who hails from Moga, Punjab, and has confessed that he runs this business in Bihar but after enforcement of total prohibition in Bihar the liquor traders and bootleggers have in large numbers have shifted to psychotropic substances business.
The smugglers of intoxicants of Punjab have choosen Bihar as a new market of their business. Raxaul town has become a centre for the smugglers. According to intelligence sources, several gangs operating in East Champaran at Raxaul, Motihari, Sugauli,
Ghorasahan, Adapur,Dhaka and Chakiya are working to convert the liquor addicts into drug addi ts.
