Ara: District and Session Judge, Buxar, Pradeep Kumar Mallik, on Thursday convicted Omkar Nath Singh alias Sheru Singh for killing Rajendra Keshari, a businessman,and fixed May 16 for announcement of quantum of punishment.

The gang of Sheru Singh and Chandan Mishra had created panic in Buxar district by demanding extortion money from businessmen besides committing murders. On August 20,2011, Sheru Singh demanded extortion money from at least 22 businessmen of the area threaten them with dire consequences. Sheru Singh and his associates shot dead Rajendra Keshari, a businessman of the area, on August 21, 2011, with a view to unleash a reign of terror.

After the murder, the Buxar police started hunting for Sheru Singh and his associates but they escaped from Buxar and took shelter in Kolkata. With the help of mobile surveillance, the police came to know that the miscreants were living in Kolkata hence a police team went there and with the help of their Bengal counterpart, the Buxar police arrested Sheru Singh, Chandan Mishra and others. Two businessmen, Gopal Keshari and Govind Keshari identified them during TI parade before the Judicial Magistrate, Devendra Kumar. Chandan Mishra, Roshan Pandey and Dinbandhu Singh were awarded rigorous life imprisonment and are languishing in Buxar jail but Sheru Singh shot at and injured a court havaldar and escaped from police custody on December 17, 2012,and so case against him was pending.

After escaping from police custody, Sheru Singh had killed a coaching institute owner near Ara block office under Nawada police station in 2013. The Bhojpur police arrested him and sent to Ara jail but he continued demanding extortion amount from different persons from jail.
