Patna: Former  chairman of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh and his wife Usha Sinha, a former JD(U) MLA were sent to 14 days judicial custody by chief judicial magistrate here on Tuesday. Alongwith them, five others  including Pankaj Jaiswal, a liquor trader of Varanasi,  were also sent to judicial custody till July 4. They were immediately taken to Beur Central jail, Patna,  in prison vans.
Singh and Usha were arrested from a temple guest house at Banaras on Monday morning and after seeking their  transit remand from a Varanasi court, they were brought over to Patna by Special Investigation team (SIT) set up to probe the Intermediate examinations results scam. Several friends and relatives of the duo were present in the civil court when SIT produced them before the court.
The two have been charged with offences related to violation of Prevention of Corruption Act and other offences under IPC. Usha Sinha was principal of Ganga Devi Mahila College, Patna, till recently.
Ealrier in the day, Singh moved an anticipatory bail petition befo re the special Vigilance court,which rejected his plea.
Singh, a former principal of prestigious Patna College and head of the department of Geography in PU, has been made  co accused along with his wife in the scam .They did not speak to the mediamen who were present in large numbers on  the court premises. Usha Sinha’s face was covered with a saffron cloth and Singh was seen carrying a mineral water bottle in a yellow polythene bag. They boarded separate prison vans meant for male and female prisoners.
