Patna: Suspended JD (U) MLC became the first legislator to be arrested and sent to jail for violation of the Bihar Excise Act. She was among other legislators who had taken oath in the House to implement prohibition policy of CM Nitish Kumar.

Last month, FIRs were filed against the Cognress MLA from Narkatiyaganj at Pataliputra and Narkatiyaganj police stations as he was caught in a sting opeation boasting to offer all varieties of liquor to his guest including mediapersons. However, since no liquor was found from his houses, he escaped arrest.
Following no relief from the district and sessions judge of Gaya on Monday, the absconding JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi on Tuesday morning surrendered before the court of judicial magistrate and was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Her husband Bindi Yadav and son Rocky Yadav alongwith her  security guard Rajesh Kumar are already in Gaya Central jail in connection with the murder of 19-year-old student Aditya Sachdeva on May 7.
Manorama made a sudden appearance before the court early morning even bef ore the court opened .Her lawyer moved a bail petition,which was turned down by the court. She was wanted in a case registered by excise department following recovery of six bottles of liquor when police had gone to search her house in connection with the murder of  Aditya Sachdeva.

On her way to Gaya central jail, Manorama said she does not drink liquor and was implicated in the case by BJP leaders of Gaya.Her houses at Gaya were sealed by district administration last week and she was asked to surrender by May 20 failing which all her  three houses would be confiscated.She had moved an anticipatory bail  petition in Gaya sessions CoUrt which was  turned down and next date was May 19.
The Gya DM had cancelled licences of three arms issued in her name  and her two security guards of district police were  also withdrawn. If convicted, she would have to face ten years of imprisonment and fine upto Rs ten lakh as provided under the Act.
