Motihari  : About 300 flood ravaged people carrying sticks and blunt objects staged demonstration at Rupahara Chowk on
Dhaka-Pakaridayal road in East Champaran district in North Bihar on July 19, 2019, blocking traffic on the the road for hours
demanding fair distribution of relief materials and GR amount to the flood victims as announced by CM Nitish Kumar recently.

When Block Development Officer (BDO), Chiraya, Sachindra Singh, reached at the spot, he was caught by protesters and locked in a roadside shop and downed its shutter for 30 minutes. SDM, Sikrahna, Gyan Prakash said the BDO was rescued by police.

Over 500 flood affected people including women had assembled at  Sikrahna SDM office on July 18, 2019, and
shouted slogan demanding adequate relief distribution.  They ransacked the offices of SDM, BDO, and CO, breaking the
doors, window. They also attacked police force injuring 4 cops. Similarly, flood affected people had staged demonstration at CO and BDO offices at Patahi in the district.

East Champaran DM Raman Kumar said the situation is under control and relief is being distributed  in marooned areas
and community kitchens are running under 4 blocks in the district. He said the GR  amount will be distributed from July 20, 2019,  among flood affected people.
