Bettiah  : A West Champaran police team, on a tip off, on July 19, 2019, conducted raid a hideout of criminals at Proshottampur near Indo-Nepal border under Bairiya police station and arrested two notorious criminals and seized a pistol and two live cartridges from their possessions. Both the arrested criminals were running a syndicate in the district and were wanted  in several cases.

West Champaran SP Jayant Kant said that the arrested criminals were identified as Uday kumar and Biru Kumar, both natives of village Jhajhari in West Champaran district. During interrogation, they confessed that they were planning commit loot at a place. They also confessed that they had looted Rs 2,50,000 from an employee of HindustanL lever near Bettiah on June 29, 2019.

In another incident, a police team reached Malahi Chowk under Bairiya police station on July 19 to search an SUV stranded there. But, seeing police the SUV sped away but it was intercepted near Dumariya embankment. Two of its occupants escaped while 3 others were arrested by police. Police seized the SUV. The arrested criminals were  identified as Niraj Kumar, Manish Kumar, and Manohar Kumar. Police seized a countrymade pistol and cartridges from their possession.  Police, after quizzing them, said that they are  liquor smugglers running their syndicate on UP-Bihar border and used to loot  vehicles.
