Jamui: Five Kanwariyas were killed and eight injured in an accident at Chakai in Jamui district on Tuesday morning when they were returning home from Deoghar. The deceased included Babu Ram Lohar, 42, Shailesh Kumar, 22, Suresh Baitha,48,(ex Mukhiya), all residents of village Piparaiya in West Champaran district.

The eight injured included Bharat Kumar, Shankar Mukhiya, Godhan Sah, Ganesh Mukhiya, Puja Chaudhry, Babulal Mukhiya, Vijay Sahni and Dhananjay Mukhiya, all residents of the same village. They were returning to their native village in their hired vehicle, Tata Magic,  after worshipping the Lord Shiva at Baidyanathdham, Deoghar.

One of the tyre of the the vehicle got punctured near a petrol pump in the main market of Chakai in Jamui district early Tuesday  morning. The Kanwariyas numbering about fifteen had got down from the vehicle and were standing beside the road and the driver of Tata Magic was busy in repairing the punctured tyre when a truck loaded with sand coming from Jasidih and proceeding towards Deoghar rushed the Kanwariyas standing beside the road and sped away. Five of them died on the spot while the injured were taken to Jamui sadar hospital where two of them were referred to PMCH  by the doctor finding their conditions very serious.
Jamui police superintendent Jayant Kant said that the driver of the truck has been arrested, as the truck also fell into a roadside drain after hitting the Kanwariyas who were standing on the roadside.(EOM)
