Motihari : Police on Tuesday opened fire at a mob at village Tetariya under the same police station in East Champaran district in which five persons received bullet injury. The mob was protesting the action of residents of village Khairwa  of not allowing kanwariyas to pass through their village road on Monday. The mob had blocked the  Madhuban- Tetariya road for hours. East Champaran SP Jitendra Rana said police had fired in the air only.

More than one thousand  villagers of different villages had assembled  at Tetariya demanding justice from the district administration. On getting information, police force  with DM East Champaran Anupam Kumar, SP Jitendra Rana and DSP Vijay Kumar reached the spot. Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob, lobbed teargas shells and also fired five rounds.  The mob pelted policemen with stones, damaged the police jeeps and set afire the jeep of Madhuban police station. Rajendra Ram, Dinsh Ram, Jitendra Sahni, Dharmendra Yadav and Yogi Sahni received  bullet
injuries and were admitted to Motihari Sadar Hospital.Rajendra Ram, who is in critical condition, was referred to  Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur.

SP Rana said that when he was  taking part in peace committee meeting  held on Tuesday at Madhuban, he received message that some anti-social elements had blocked the road at Tetariya and when police force and officials  reached Tetariya, they attacked the force, damaged the vehicles of police and administrative officials and set afire a police jeep. Police lobbed tear gas shells and opened five rounds fire in the air to disperse the mob. Six jawans of police were injured in mob fury, the SP said and added a section of mob tried to damage a religious place at Tetariya  and a clash took place between two communities and they exchanged fire  between them in which five persons received gun shot injuries. Cases are being lodged by police against the accused. The situation is under control and police patrolling  is on, the SP said.
