Federer, Nadal enter 2nd round of Wimbledon Championships

Patna : Second seed and eight-time former champion Roger Federer, Switzerland, and 3rd seed and two-time former champion Rafael Nadal, Spain, advanced to the 2nd round of Wimbledon Championships at London, UK, on July 2, 2019, night.

Federer beat World No 86 Lloyd Harris, 22, South Africa, in four-sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. Federer, winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles, fired 9 Aces in the match to 5 by Harris. Federer won 6 break points in the match to 1 by Harris. The Swiss superstar won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Harris. Federer will face Jay Clarke, UK, in the 2nd round.

Nadal, the winner of 18 Grand Slam singles title, beat World No 274 Yuichi Sugita, Japan, in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 in the first round. Nadal  broke Sugita’s service 6 times in the match including twice in the first set and thrice in the second. Sugita won only one break points. Nadal also fired 11 Aces in the match to 4 by Sugita, a qualifier. He also won 7 games in a row to 2 by 2 by Sugita. Nadal will face Nick Kyrgios, Australia, in the 2nd round.
