 Patna : The  East Central Railway ( ECR ) earned a revenue of  about Rs 13,738.36  crore   in 2015-2016  fiscal  which is the highest ever  for the zone.  In the field of  goods loading too, it  created a record by loading 114.93  million tonne .  Passenger amenities  have been given top most priority under all  five divisions of the zone, said ECR GM  A K Mittal on Friday. 

Mittal   was speaking at   the ECR’s Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee ( ZRUCC ) meeting   here  on  Friday. Several members of parliament ( MPs) , ZRUCC members and senior officials of ECR attended the meeting and discussed   various measures to further improve functioning of railway network in Bihar, he   said  adding   the number of coaches  has been increased in a few mail and express trains  from 18 to  24 coaches in the interest of passengers  

The GM   said that railways has adopted mechanized cleaning  system  for platforms and coaches. Onboard  house keeping is being carried out in most of the trains originating from five divisions of the zone to maintain   cleanliness. Railways  is also carrying on the construction of new lines, gauge conversion, platform sheds besides construction of 10  foot over bridges ( FOBs ) at major stations in the current fiscal , he said. The GM said that  Digha – Sonepur rail cum road bridge and Munger rail bridge  have already been made functional. About  10 more escalators  are being  installed at a few important  stations  of the zone.  Escalators have already been installed at  Patna Junction and Dhanbad stations , he said.  

The MPs who participated in the discussion included Ajay Nishad , Ram Kumar Sharma, Chhedi Paswan, Satish Chandra Dubey  and Hari Manjhi. They demanded more passenger amenities  for the common people at big and small stations  of the ECR.  The meeting  also discussed  ongoing railway projects   and  running of trains under different divisions of ECR. The  welcomed the guests and highlighted the achievements of ECR during the  2015-2016  fiscal .
