Buxar : Judicial Magistrate I, Buxar Civil Court, Rajesh Kumar Singh, on August 29, 2018, sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) to Mohammad Sabdar for torturing his wife Bhanumati Devi. The court also slapped a fine of and also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on the convict.

Bhanumati Devi of village Sarana in Bhojpur district lived with her grandfather at village Kanheri under Rajpur police station in Bhojpur district since her childhood. Meanwhile, she came in contact with Mohammad Sabdar of Kanheri and fell in love with him. They tied knot at a temple with Hindu rituals and also registered their marriage. After marriage, Bhanumati Devi was tortured for dowry. A case of dowry was filed in the court. Mohammad Sabdar had denied any such marriage though saying he was a muslim and can’t at a temple. But, Bhanumati Devi produced all certificates and photographs of her marriage before the court.

After hearing both the parties, the court found Mohammad Sabdar guilty of breach of trust and torturing his wife for dowry and awarded two years rigorous imprisonment to him besides slapping a fine of Rs 2,000 on him.
