Gopalganj: A BJP delegation from Gopalganj on January 11 reached Patna and submitted a memorandum to director general of police (DGP) P K Thakur demanding a high level probe by senior police officers into the alleged police atrocities on the people of Gopalganj town. The delegates also sought justice from DGP.

The members in the delegation alleged that under a well planned conspiracy people of majority community particularly BJP leaders were being implicated in false cases by police. They said that dozens of innocent people have been implicated in cases lodged with the Town police station of Gopalganj. The BJP leaders alleged that cops were filing cases against them even if they take out procession or holding peaceful dharna. They said that party leaders including Manish Kishore Narayan and Deepak Kumar Deepu were implicated in false cases while several people have been implicated in cases lodged with Meerganj police station.

The delegation said cases have been also lodged with Kuchaikot, Uchakagaon, Barauli and Kateya police stations against BJP leaders. They said that people are living under constant terror due to police atrocities.

The BJP leaders said that police keeps innocent people inside the lock-up for four to five days and use third degree on them. They urged the DGP to take steps so that the people of the district are not afraid of the cops.

The delegation included BJP state vice president Sanjay Prasad Mayukh, MLAs Mithilesh Tiwary and Subhash Singh, MLCs Sachchidanand Rai and Lal Babu Rai and district BJP president Vinod Singh. Meanwhile, in Gopalganj, the traders have started making an appeal to the shop-owners to down their shutters on Thursday also. They met personally each and every shop-owner of the town, urging them to cooperate.

The district police remained alert following bandh call by the trading community. Additional force has been kept in the Town police station for it. However, the traders held a closed door meeting, deciding not to take out any procession or hold dharna.
