Patna: A woman along with her twin minor daughters committed suicide by jumping into river Ganga at Simariya manGhat under Chakiya police outpost in Begusarai district on January 11. The woman first threw her daughters into the river and then she also jumped into it. The deceased Priyanka Devi (30), a native of village Kuer Wajitpur under Patepur police station in Vaishali district.

Police said that Priyanka, wife of Bittu Mishra of Vaishali, reached Simariya Ghat with her two year old daughters-Mithi Kumari and Mahi Kumari-by a train. She reached the bank of river Ganga and committed suicide. Before the locals could react, the trio met their watery grave.

Priyanka’s father Pramod Jha and his wife Heera Devi, natives of Bibhutipur in Samastipur, said that their daughter was married to Bittu Mishra about five years ago. As per the deceased’s father, she had lost her mental balance an  dafter being mentally tortured by her in-laws’ for dowry she took this extreme step. Pramod said that Priyanka rang up her husband after reaching Simariya Ghat informing him that she was going to commit suicide by jumping into river Ganga. He said that his son in-law informed him after that.

Chakiya police outpost SHO said that a complaint has been lodged on the statement of deceased’s father in this regard.
