Patna : RJD chief Lalu Prasad on October 24, 2017, claimed that the BJP was calling the shots in NDA government headed by CM Nitish Kumar. It is Deputy CM Sushil Modi and the BJP who are calling the shots in the government, Lalu said while talking to a section of mediapersons here. Without naming CM Nitish Kumar, Lalu said that ‘ Palturam’ ( turncoat) has almost become no-existent in the NDA regime.

But, some political observrs feel that Lalu was trying to create rift betwwen the JD(U) and BJP as Nitish Kumar had resigned as the Chief Minister of Grand Alliance government on July 26, 2017, and formed government with the support of NDA on July 27. Later, following request from BJP president Amit Shah, the JD (U) also returned to the NDA fold. Nitish had later asserted that the opposition parties lack strength to defeat PM Narendra Modi in the 2019 LS polls.
