Nawada:  Nawada ADM Maharshi Ram, who was arrested by the vigilance investigation bureau sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh at his Nawada official residence on Thursday night, is seemingly has scant respect for the law.

In 2006, when he was the civil SDO in East Muzaffarpur, he had resorted to forgery and acquired 1.57 acre of land located at Bhagwanpur Chowk, Muzaffarpur,  which legally belonged to deceased Qurban Mansoori, husband of Juleha Khatoon. Juleha had then approached Maharshi Ram in order to transfer the ownership of the land in her name following her husband’s death. But the wily SDO misusing his power had instead forged the documents and appropriated the 1.57 acre land in the name of his own wife.

Following a complaint, Maharshi Ram was arrested by the vigilance sleuths led by the then Dy. SP PN Mishra in September 2007 from his Phulwarisharif residence in the state capital. Maharshi Ram at the time of his arrest was the deputy director, welfare department, Munger division. The case is still being monitored by Patna High Court. Maharshi Ram’s scant respect for law can be also be ascertained by the fact that despite strict prohibition enforced in the state since April, he was found in possession of three IMFL bottles at his Nawada residence.
