Patna: A Patna Police team on December 21 night intercepted a four-wheeler bearing registration number of Jharkhand after a hot chase at Nandlal Chhapra and seized 70 cartons of IMFL having 800 bottles from the vehicle. One Sonu yadav alias Sonu Kumar, a resident of Choti Mandir locality under Malsalami police station, Patna, was arrested in this connection, said Patna Senior SP (SSP) Manu Maharaaj.
Police said that Patna SSP had received inputs that a large consignment of liquor was being smuggled into Bihar in view of Christmas, Prakashotasav and New Year from neighbouring Jharkhand. A special police team led by City SP (east), Patna, and comprising Sadar SDPO and Ramkrishna Nagar ps SHO and members of Technical Cell was constituted by SSP to see that the liquor consignment did not reach the hands of anti-social elements and bikers gangs of Patna.
The special police team started collecting information about smuggling of liquor from Jharkhand and leading liquor dealers of Patna City. The special police team received input that a consignment was to reach Patna and police stations concerned were alerted and directed to keep an eye on different check-posts across the district.
During vehicle checking, police team came to know that a four-wheeler bearing registration number-JH-052-4225 was moving in a suspicious manner in the night and its driver was being changed at regular intervals. The cops became sure that the vehicle though laden with fodder was carrying something objectionable.
Police said that the police team tried to intercept the vehicle after it entered Patna. The vehicle’s driver tried to mow down the cops and escaped from the spot. A police team chased the vehicle and intercepted it close to Ganga Apartment at Nandlal Chhapra and arrested the driver. The cops were stunned to see a huge consignment of liquor hidden under the bags of fodder. The driver was later identified as Sonu Yadav alias Sonu Kumar, a resident of Malsalami in Patna.
Police said that during interrogation, the arrested driver disclosed the names of some liquor traders and raids are on to arrest them. An FIR had been lodged with RK Nagar police station in this connection. Police seized a four-wheeler, 70 cartons of IMFL and 10 bags of fodder. Patna SSP made an appeal to the people to inform police on Whatsap number-9939919191 about any liquor trade and the name of the informer would be kept secret.
