Ara : The members of different students’ association continued their aggressive agitation for the fourth consecutive day on December 22 in protest against lathicharge on the students by police on December 19. The agitating students on Thursday took out procession from Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara,  campus that passed through the main thoroughfares of the town and went to different colleges forcing the authorities to close the colleges. They paralyzed working and teaching in colleges and the university.

Later, they reached the university and staged demonstration before Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, Leela Chand Sah.  The  entire university campus was converted into police camp but the agitation continued.

On December 19, the members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) had made VC, VKSU, Leela Chand Sah, captive in his chamber for about six hours. They were demanding cancellation of the result of the Pre-PhD examination, resignations of the Principal, H D Jain College, Ara, and the Examination Controller, VKSU. At about 7 pm on Deceber 19, police freed the VC and took him to his residence under tight security. After that police resorted to lathicharge on the students in the evening the same day and allegedly also hit  them with butt of the rifles in which over a dozen students were injured. Teaching and other works have remained paralyased since December 20.

Meanwhile, the Examination Controller, VKSU, resigned from his post but the VC refused to accept it. The VC constituted a three- man inquiry committee comprising Prof Dhyanendra Kumar, Dean, Science faculty, Prof. Gauri Shankar Prasad, Dean, faculty of Commerce, and Prof. Shiv Kumar Singh, Dean, faculty of Social Science, and asked it to submit its report at the earliest. The VC said that the result of the Pre-Ph.D will remain suspended till the report of  the inquiry committee comes. The VC said that the students had resorted to pressure politics as the president of the NSUI leader Abhishek Dwiwedi is himself a Pre-Ph.D examinee.
