Ara: Headmasters of 13 out of 123 schools returned cheques to the District Education Officer (DEO), Bhojpur,  Suresh Prasad, and DPO, Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA), Ram Pravesh Singh, at a meeting convened by the DEO on Saturday.

About Rs 10 crore had been allotted to 123 Primary and Middle Schools from 2009-2010 to 2014-2015 for construction of additional classrooms in their schools but work was not done and the funds were allegedly misappropriated.Taking serious note of it, the DEO had directed all the Headmasters to return the amount or complete the work within 15 days failing which stern action would be taken against them. The DEO convened the meeting for the purpose on Saturday but Headmasters of only 13 schools returned cheques of allotted fund.

DPO, SSA, Ram Pravesh Singh said that the deadline for return of cheque has been extended till August 10, 2016, and if the Headmasters did not return the cheque by that date, an FIR will be lodged against the Headmasters concerned and they might be suspended. He said that 123 Headmasters were directed to return cheques of allotted amount but 110 Headmaster were yet to return the cheques. Singh said the then DPO, SSA, Md. Irshad Ansari had embezzled huge amount of the Sarv Shikshaa Abhiyaan and so he was suspended and the government ordered an inquiry into it  by Vigilance investigation bureau.
