Patna : World No 1 and top seed Novak Djokovic, Serbia, entered the second round of Wimbledon Championships, London, on July 1, 2019, but World No 5 Aleaxnder Zverev, Germany, and World No 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, Greece, were knocked out of the grass courts tournament by players ranked much lower than them.
Djokovic beat Philipp Kohlschreiber, Germany, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 to enter the 2nd round. Djokoc fired 12 Aces in the match to 9 by Kohlschreiber. He won 6 break points to 2 by Kohlschreiber.
But, World No 12 Jiri Veseley, 25, Czech Republic, beat 6th seed Alexander Zverev, Germany, in four-sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 in a massive upset in the tournament. Zverev though hammered 24 Aces in the match to 7 by Vesely. But, Vesely won 5 break points to 1 by Zverev. Vesely won 7 games in a row to 3 by Zverev.
World No 89 Thomas Fabbiano, Italy, beat World No 6 and 7th seed Tsitsipas in a five-set thriller 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in another major upset in Grand Slam tournament. Tsistsipas though fired 11 Aces in the match to just 1 by Fabbiano. Fabbiano won 5 break points to 2 by Tsitsipas.
