Patna : Peace was disturbed at Hajipur, headquarters of Vaishali district, after a youth was gunned
down and another sustained injuries on September 21, 2018, early morning. The injured youth was sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
As the news of the violence spread in the locality, tension prevailed there. On getting information, police reached the spot and controlled the situation. Sources said that members of two Akharas clashed over supremacy over
taking out procession in an area falling under the jurisdiction of Town police station, Hajipur, in which a youth was killed on the spot while another sustained injury. The deceased was identified as plumber Mohd. Shahnawaz Qureshi, son of Mohd. Feroz Qureshi.
Though locals claimed that two youth had died, police claimed that only one youth was killed while the injured youth was undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital, Hajipur. When the injured youth was undergoing treatment, some of his associates allegedly manhandled the doctors and employees on duty. They also damaged two ambulances and a doctor’s car. Windowpanes of a four-wheeler carrying body of a girl were also damaged.
Agitated over the incident, doctors went on strike to protest their manhandling by the mob. After that, Vaishali civil surgeon Dr Indradeo Ranjan had to intervene for Shahnawaz’s autopsy while the doctors held a meeting over the situation.
Later in the day, the body was kept at Masjid Chowk on Hajipur-Mahnar road. The mob set ablaze a shop and damaged several shops there. Sensing the gravity of the situation, Vaishali administration deployed
jawans of RAF and SSB besides district police at every vantage point of the town. Vaishali DM Rajeev Raushan and SP MS Dhillon were seen moving in the town.
There were skirmishes between the people and policemen. Some cops sustained injuries in stone pelting by the mob. Vaishali DM claimed that situation was normal in town.
