Patna : World Number 2 Women Badminton player Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, beat World Number 2 P V Sindhu, India, in a close encounter 15-21, 21-12, 21-19 in the final to win the BWF Dubai Super Series Finals on December 17, 2017. Sindhu won the first game but lost the next two despite taking early lead.

Yamaguchi showed steely nerves in the match that lasted for 94 minutes. Both the players showed their agility, energy and stamina in the match but Yamaguchi had the last laugh. The match witnessed long rallies between the two players. One of the rallies in the second set saw 41 shots.

Incidentally, Sindhu had comfortably defeated Yamaguchi in her final group match on December 15, 2017. After her semi-finals victory on December 16, Sindhu had said she wants to become to the first Indian woman shuttler to win the Dubai Super Series finals.
