Patna : World No 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 23, Greece, crashed out of US Open on September 4, 2021, suffering a shock defeat at the hands of World No 55 Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, 18, Spain, in third round in a five-set marathon at Arthur Ashe Stadium.  Carlos stunned 3rd seed Tsitsipas 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, 0-6, 7-6 in 4 hr 6 minutes to move into the 4th round of US Open.

Tsitsipas though hammered 14 Aces during the match to just 2 by teenage Carlos. The Greek, however, also committed 5 double faults during the match to 2 by the Spaniard. Tsitsipas also won 8 break points during the match to 6 by Carlos. The Greek also won 7 games in a row during the match to 5 by Carlos.

Tsitsipas, in all, won 167 points during the match to 159 by the Spaniard. Tsitsipas won 27 games in the match to 24 by Carlos.Carlos, however, won 2 tiebreaks (3rd set & 5th set) to clinch the match.Carlos remained unruffled in the fifth set tiebreak.  The Spaniard also won 102 service points to 99 by the Greek. Carlos will face Peter Gojowczyk, Germany, in Round of 16 on September 5, 2021. Tsitsipas had also exited in 3rd round of US Open 2020.
