Patna : World No 185 Siril Verma, 19, India, upset World No 73 Iskandar Zulkarnain, 28, Malaysia, to enter the 2nd round of Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open, a BWF Tour Super 100 event, at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on September 11, 2019.
Siril Verma beat Zulkarnain in straight games 21-18, 21-7 in 32 minutes in 1st round at Nguyen Du Cultural Sports Club, Ho Chi Minh City. Siril won 42 rallies in the match to 25 by 25 by the Malaysian. He also won 5 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Zulkarnain. It was first meeting between the two players.
Siril will face top seed World No 35 Liew Daren, Malaysia, in 2nd round on September 12, 2019. Third Seed and World No 41 Subhankar Dey, India, will face World No 138 Jia Wei Tan, Malaysia, in 2nd round on September 12 while 2nd seed and World No 38 Sourabh Verma, India, will clash with Kodai Naroka, Japan.
