Patna:  A Workshop on Ham and CB Radio for communication during any emergency was organized by the Society of Radio Amateurs (SORA) in association with the Civil Defence, Bihar, at Samvaad Hall, Patna, on December 18. The team from SORA showed films related to Ham Radio followed by technical sessions and introduction to the amazing world of Amateur Radio popularly known as Ham Radio.
A mock drill exercise was organized on CB Radio frequencies with Civil Defence volunteers to give them a basic training in wireless operation. The volunteers were divided in groups and with experianced operators reacted to a situation of an earthquake by co-ordinating with medical emergency teams, ambulances, hospitals and rescue personnel during the mock drill. Ham Radio is an alternative line of communication during an emergency. It is also a popular hobby authorising licensed amateurs to communicate with other such licensed amateurs worldwide on designated frequencies.

Society of Radio Amateurs was represented by Sanjay Gautam (VU3NFF) and Pranav Sahi (VU3NEJ) who were instructors at the  workshop along with Jaipal Arya (Vu3NEQ) who was the coordinator of the event.
