Bagaha : Half burnt body of a newly married woman Ranju Devi, 23, wife of Nandlal Musahar of village Koluha-Pakari under  Chautarawa police station in West Champaran district was recovered by police  led by SHO BK Singh on late May 13, 2017, night from the bank of river Haraha .

Chautarawa police station SHO BK Singh said that Ranju Devi was often beaten up allegedly by her in-laws for not bringing in enough dowry. On May 13 evening her in- laws and husband brutally assaulted her leading to her death and were trying to cremate her on the bank of river Haraha. Meanwhile, the police reached the place and seized the half burnt body from the funeral pyre, the SHO said.

Sources said that Ranju’s father Badari Musahar of sikta-Belawa under Ramnagar police station in West Champaran district, on getting the information about death of his daughter,  reached the police station and lodged a complaint with police in this connection. Police swung into action and seized the half burnt body and brought it over to the government hospital, Bagaha, for autopsy.

The SHO on May 14 said that three persons including Ranju’s husband have been made named accused in the case. No arrest has been made so far, he said.
