Saharsa : The villagers and relatives of a woman, who died at private Lallan Nursing Home, Naya Bazaar, Saharsa, during delivery on September 18, 2017, night, allegedly due to negligence on the part of the doctor and para-medical staff concerned, staged demonstration at the Nursing Home on September 19 morning demanding stern action against its authorities. The Nursing Home director, doctors and para-medical and other staff disappeared from the Nursing Home sensing the mood of the protesters.

Pregnant Sanju Devi, mother of three children and wife of Durga Tanti of village Bariyahi Safabad in Saharsa district, was admitted to Lallan Nursing Home at 11 am on September 18 for delivery. The Nursing Home staff demanded Rs 30,000 from Durga Tanti, who immediately deposited Rs 3,000. But, Sanju Devi died during delivery. But, the doctor concerned Dr R Mohan did not inform her husband about it and instead sent her to another private hospital of the town on an ambulance which refused to admit her. Her kin reached that hospital but were shocked to find her dead. But, they returned to their village with the body on September 18 evening but returned on September 19. Sanju Devi’s family members were also not informed about the whereabouts of her child.

It may be mentioned here that Dr R Mohan, who is posted at Saharsa Sadar Hospital, was in the dock recently when a child had died during delivery at the Sadar Hospital. The Saharsa district administration had ordered an inquiry into the incident and recommended against Dr R Mohan but to no avail so far.
