Sasaram : A woman Manti Devi committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at village Dedaha under Dinara police station in Rohtas district on September 22, 2017, evening, in protest against her husband’s illicit relation with a girl.
A named FIR has been lodged with Kochas police station against her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law on the statement of the deceased’s father Mahendra Sah alleging that her in-laws were demanding electronic equipment including Television and other items and tortured her frequently for dowry and when their demands were not fulfilled, they burnt her to death. He said that his daughter had informed him about her plight on mobile.
SHO, Kochas police station, Satish Kumar, said that Manti Devi, daughter of Mahendra Sah of Chakia village under Dhansoi police station, and Rakesh Kumar of Dedaha under Dinara police station under Rohtas police station had love marriage about three years ago. She frequently protested her husband’s illicit relation with a girl. On Septembr 22, she saw photograph of a girl in the mobile of her husband which led to heated change between them. Rakesh Kumar also beat her up. Manti Devi sprinkle kerosene oil on her body and set herself ablaze. The family members rushed her to the Dinara Primary Health Centre but the doctors referred her to Kochas hospital where she succumbed to her burn injuries.
The SHO said that inquiry was on the basis of dying declaration of Manti Devi and an FIR lodged by her father. He said that after thorough inquiry, the culprits will be arrested.
