W. Indies 94/6 at stumps on day 2, India declare at 649/9, Jadeja hits ton

Patna : Replying to India’s 649/9 declared, West Indies were 94/6 in 29 overs at stumps on day 2 of the first cricket test at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, Gujarat, on October 5, 2018, with Roston Chase batting on 27 with 4 fours and Keemo Paul on 13 with a four and a six. Mohammad Shami took 2/11 while spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandra Ashwin, and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each. Shimron Hetmyer was run out for 10.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 364/4, India added another 285 runs before declaring their innings. Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 100 in 132 ball with 5 fours and 5 sixes, his first test century after playing international cricket for 9 years.

Captain Virat Kohli scored 139 run in 230 ball with 10 fours while debutant Prithvi Shaw made 134 in 154 ball with 19 fours. Cheteswar Pujara made 86 with 14 fours while wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant scored 92 in 84 ball with 8 fours and 4 sixes. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav made 22. Kohli and Pant added 133 run for the fifth wicket. Jadeja added 55 run with Umesh Yadav for the 9th wicket.

For West Indies, spinner Devendra Bishoo took 4/217 while Sherman Lewis took 2/93. Shanon Gabriel, Roston Chase, and Kraigg Brathwaite took one wicket each.
