Ara: Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, on Tuesday decided in principle to implement Choice based credit system (CBCS) in the university. A five – member committee comprising Deans of science, Social Science, Humanity and Law faculties and Coordinator, College Development Committee (CCDC), has been constituted in this connection. The CCDC would be convener of the committee. The committee would submit its report in three months.
A meeting of Academic Council of the Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU) was held on Tuesday and several decisions were taken for the improvement of teaching standard and others.
Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, Leela Chand Sah said that the first and second term system in Ph.D has been abolished now and the date of registration would be counted from the date a students gets admission He said the implementation of choice based credit system was decided in principle at the meeting. He said that the academic council authorized him to apprise the Chancellor of the latest status of Bhojpuri department which is still being run without approval of the chancellor.
He said the pre Ph.D examination would now be held in the department concerned.The VC said that the university would now use a new software to check plagiarism in thesis by research scholars and the supervisors as well. He said that he had received several complaints that the most of the supervisors of research scholars manage some thesis on different topics from Banaras Hindu University, Patna University and other university of the country. Some research scholars themselves adopt such corrupt practices.He said after some moderation, such thesis are submitted and the research scholars are awarded degree. But after introduction and use of new software, such plagiarism would be checked, Sah said. The research committee would be able to find out whether the thesis was copy of another persons’ ideas, words and findings. He said that the VKSU is the first university in in the state to adopt the method to detect plagiarism.
The VC said that the academic council of the university also decided to start LLM and M.Ed courses very soon. He said that an expert would be requisitioned for preparation of LLM syllabus and after completing all formalities, the proposal would be sent to the governor office for his approval to start the LLM course in the university and add prior to sending proposal, infrastructure for the purpose at Maharaja Law College would be improved.

In the meantime, a number of students from Assam are reaching the VKSU for research work but the university administration has banned their registration till their papers and documents were verified. The VC said that 19 students from Assam have applied to Political Science and 15 to History department for their registration for Ph.D degree. He said their registration for Ph.D would be done after their papers and documents were verified and found correct.
