Ara : The Senate of the Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, on January 10, 2020, passed around Rs 637.28 crore deficit budget for the fiscal 2020-2021 amid pandemonium. Elaborate arrangements were made for the Senate meeting and the entire new block of VKSU was cordoned off in view of possibility of students’ protest during the meeting.
Security arrangements notwithstanding ,hundreds of students owning allegiance of All India Students Association (AISA) reached the new campus of the VKSU at zero mile on Ara-Sasaram main road in procession and resorted to agitation to press their 15 point demands including increase in seats in different faculties, lowering the admission fees.
As the members of the Senate reached the meeting venue, the students staged gherao there and did not allow them to go inside. The officials of the VKSU tried to pacify the students but when they failed, police resorted to lathicharg injuring over two dozen students that agitated the students and they scuffled with police injuring a Sub-Inspector.
The protesters also damaged half a dozen vehicle parked outside the meeting place. They also gatecrashed into the meeting hall and tried to disturb the meeting raising slogans against the Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, Devi Prasad Tiwari, for his alleged anti-student attitude. At this, the VC lost his temper and he terminated the students who had entered the meeting hall that invited protest from the Senate members and the VC had to rollback his order. The AISA had announced gherao of the Senate meeting earlier if the VKSU administration did not concede their demands. Later in the afternoon, the Senate meeting started and a deficit budget of about Rs. 637.28 crore was passed.
