Vice President Naidu attends last rites of Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi : The Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu attended the last rites of former External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, who was cremated with State Honours, here on August 7, 2019. Earlier, Naidu visited her residence in New Delhi and offered his condolences to the family members.

The Vice President, in a message, said that he was deeply shocked by the sudden demise of Sushma Swaraj. He described her death as a huge loss to the country and personal loss to him. “She was an excellent administrator, outstanding Parliamentarian, and a remarkable orator. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family member,” he added.

Later in a Facebook post, Naidu recalled his long and close association with Sushma Swaraj and her family and mentioned that she used to tie Rakhi on his wrist every year. The Vice President said that she served the country selflessly and described her as an embodiment of integrity, dignity, and grace, according to a PIB release. He said that she was known for her humane and compassionate nature and used to always respond to people in distress.
