Unmarried woman dies at Ara Sadar Hospital after delivering child at home

Ara : An unmarried woman, who had delivered a male child at her home at village Jaisidih under Piro police station in Bhojpur district on September 7, 2017, morning, died on September 8 morning at Sadar Hospital, Ara, where she was admitted on September 7 evening after her condition deteriorated. The employees and the doctors of Ara Sadar Hospital collected fund for the last rites of the hapless woman as her family members had no money.. Her new born male child has been kept at the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit on the campus of the Sadar Hospital for treatment.

The woman of village Jaisidih under Piro police station used to go to cut grass in the field along with her friends and allegedly came in contact with Shailendra Chaudhary, son of Lal Babu Chaudhary of Saripur village under Piro police station. She fell in love with Shailendra Chaudhary and developed relationship with him. Shailendra Chaudhary outraged her modesty for 10 month with a promise to marry her but when he came to know that she was pregnant, he refused to marry her.

When her family members came to know  about it, a named FIR was lodged with Piro police station on August 26, 2017 and police arrested Shailendra Chaudhary and sent him to jail. He is still in the jail. Police also got her medical examination done at Ara Sadar Hospital on August 27, 2017, and the doctor disclosed that she was over eight month pregnant. Earlier, she did not agree for abortion despite pressure from the family hoping that the father of the child might accept them after delivery.

On Septembner 7, 2017, morning she complaied of labour pain but the family members did not take her to the doctor to save the dignity of the family and she gave birth to a male child at home. But, when her condition deteriorated, the family members rushed her to Ara Sadar Hospital in the evening on September 7 where she breathed her last early in the morning on September 8.

SHO, Woman Police Station, Poonam Kumari said that statement of the deceased was recorded under section 164 CrPC in the court before hers death and if needed, DNA test of her child will also be done. She  said that further action will be taken in this regard after the post-mortem report comes.

Manti Devi, mother of the deceased, alleged at Ara Sadar Hospital that family members of Shailendra Chaudhary were putting pressure on them to withdraw the case and even offered Rs. 1 lakh for this but she declined their offer.  Manti said that she would take responsibility of her daughter’s son.
