Two-day Kosi Mahotsav begins

Saharsa : The two-day Kosi Mahotsav got underway on March 24, 2017, at 8 pm with artists of cultural organisation Swaranjali presenting welcome song and Chaita folk dance. Inaugurating the Mahotsav, state Minority Welfare Minister Abdul Gafoor said that the Kosi Mahotsav and Ugratara Cultural Mahotsav were aimed at proper development of Kosi region. He said the two programmes had proved to a big hit with the people of Kosi region. He also released a souvenir Kosi Darpan on the occasion.

Gafoor said that a view to developing the Kosi region, the state government is establishing medical and engineering colleges in the region and also constructed several bridges over river Kosi. He, however, said that the region still lags behind in the field of education. The students need quality education, he said. The minister said the state government has  sanctioned Rs 54 crore to develop drainage system in the region to stop waterlogging. Commissioner, Kosi division, Lallanji highlighted the cultural aspects of the region. He pleaded for publication of a Maithili magazine from the region. Saharsa DM Vinod Singh Gunjiyal and SP Ashwini also addressed the function.
