Nawada: Two cellphones were seized from the inmates of Nawada jail during a raid conducted by Nawada civil SDO Rajesh Kumar and senior police officials early Monday morning. An earthen “chulha”, used by some inmates to cook food of their choice by using raw materials smuggled inside through the porous security system, was also destroyed.

There were reports that several criminal incidents were being masterminded from within the jail premises. However, it is not the first time that mobile phones have been recovered from the inmates following a raid. Earlier too, several raids had led to recovery of mobile phones, battery chargers and even a television set. In fact, some inmates are known to use mobile phones as a ‘phone booths’ to facilitate inmates to connect to their family and friends after paying a sizeable amount.
