Ara : The two-day nationwide strike by different trade unions to protest the alleged anti-worker policies and unilateral labour reforms being pursued by the central government evoked mixed response in Bhojpur district on day 2 on January 9, 2019. Almost all the schools, banks, post- offices and other institutions remained closed and heavy vehicles were off the roads. Though all the government institutions and civil courts were opened but attendance was thin.

Hundreds of employees under the banner of different trade unions and the activists of the CPI(ML) led by Tarari MLA Sudama Prasad took out processions from different parts of Bhojpur district and forced the traders and business establishments to down their shutters. They blocked the roads at Patel Bus Stand, Isardhi Mor, Shivganj, Dhobi ghatawa, Ara-Sandesh, Ara-Sahar, Ara-Mohania, Ara-Barhara, Ara-Sasaram main roads for about four hours since morning.

They burnt tyres on the road  paralysing movement of vehicles since morning on Ara-Patna main road near Patel Bus stand raising slogans against PM Narendra Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for their alleged anti-employee policies. Speaking on the occasion, Sudama Prasad, MLA, accused the Union and the Bihar governments of being anti-employees.
