Bagaha : Tirupati Sugar Mill, Bagaha, in West Champaran district, has paid Rs 9.91 crore as arrears of cane price into  the bank accounts of the cane growers concerned for cane purchased from January 1 to January 5, 2017.

General Manager (personnel), Tirupati Sugar Mill,  Y S Bhatanagar said,” We have already been paid Rs 88.47 crore for cane purchased during current season till January 5, 2017, into the  bank accounts of cane growers concerned.” Bhatnagar said the mill management always follows the Bihar Sugarcane Supply and Purchase Act.  The Act makes it mandatory for the factories to pay the price within fortnight of purchase of the cane.

Bhatnagar urged the local administration to look into the plight of cane growers residing on Uttar Pradesh (UP) as they are being exploited by middlemen and cane mafias who tell them that the factory will not pay them regularly in future and ask them to sell their sugarcane at throwaway price to the middlemen and crushers in UP.
