Patna : Fifth seed Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, stunned five-time champion and 2nd seed Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, beating him in a three-set thriller lasting 2hr 47 minutes in Group Bjorn Borg match in Nitto ATP Finals at O2 Arena, London, UK, on November 13, 2019, early morning, qualifying for the semi-finals.

Thiem, who had upset 3rd seed and six-time champion Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, in his first match November 11, 2019, edged past World No 2 Djokovic 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 battling back from one set down. Thiem won 4 break points in the match to 3 by Djokovic. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. The Austrian won 76 service points to 59 by the Serbian. Djokovic though fired 9 Aces in the match to 6 by Thiem, who rallied back from 1-4 down in 3rd set tie-break.

Djokovic said that Thiem played a great match playing with same intensity all through the match. Djokovic, however, still leads Thiem 6-4 Head to Head. Thiem, who described the Serbian a s a legend, has now beaten Djokovic in four out of last five matches between the two. The Austrian had also upset Djokovic in the SFs of French Open in 2019.
