Patna : Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, further consolidated her position as the World No 1 female Badminton player by lifting the singles title at Singapore Open 2019, an HSBC World Tour Super 500 category tournament, at Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore, beating World No 3 Nozomi Okuhara, 24, Japan, in the final on April 14, 2019.

Top seed Tai Tzu beat 2nd seed Okuhara, the 2017 World Champion, 21-19, 215 in 41 minutes in the final. Tai Tzu won 42 rallies in the match to 34 by Okuhara. She also won 7 consecutive points to 5 by Okuhara. Tai Tzu now leads Okuhara 5-4 head to head. Tai Tzu had defeated World No 4 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, in the semi-finals while Okuhara had defeated World No 6 P V Sindhu, India.

Tai Tzu had also won women’s singles title at Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019 on April 7, 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 category tournament, at Kula Lumpur, Malaysia, defeating Akane Yamaguchi 21-16, 21-19 in the final.
