Sasaram: The flood in river Sone has broken 12 year record and entered 150 villages in Rohtas district. Women and children have taken shelter on the roof of their houses while men ferried to market to purchase necessary items of food for the families. A large number of families were evacuated from the Sone Tila area a week ago and those who could not be evacuated are in danger.
In view of the alarming situation, Rohtas district administration requisitioned team of NDRF for rescue operation and 90 boasts are pressed into operation for relief works under Rohtas, Tilhauthu and Nauhatta blocks. Hundreds of Rohtas district and police officials are camping in the flood affected areas to keep round the clock vigil on the situation. The road link to Rohtas Bazaar, Tilhauthu Bazaar, Barrage, Dehri, Nasariganj, Karakat Bazaar has been snapped as the water of river Sone is flowing over knee deep on the roads. Several villages including Jamua, Chhedipur, Baknaur, Samhauta, Uchaila, Kasigaawan, Khazuri, Rasulpur, Dhelbagh, Bandu, Shahpur, Nauhatta, Bhadara, Baraicha, Panduka, Parachha, Tiara, Tilokhpur, Devipur, Saraiya are completely marooned.
Rohtas DM Animesh Kumar Parashar confirmed that the flood has broken 12 year record and said that rescue operation was going on on war footing and a team of NDRF has been pressed into operation. The DM said that flood affected people were being evacuated to safer places. He said the awkward situation has arisen due to release of 11.67 lakh cusec water from the Indrapuri Barrage into Sone.
