SSC holds various programmes to mark World Environment Day

Patna: Shrikrishna Science Centre (SSC), Patna, a unit of National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Government of India,  held various educational programmes on World Environment Day on Sunday. The programmes included “On the spot Painting Competition”, “Fancy Dress Competition” and “Popular Science Lecture on “Roles of youth in Environment Conservation”.

The programme started in the morning with “On the spot Painting Competition” in which around 230 students from different schools participated. There were three groups in `On the spot Painting Competition’. In the Sub Junior Group (class I to IV), the students were asked to make Paintings on “Greenery Around your House”  while in the Junior Group (class V to VII) and Senior Group (class VIII to X) the students were asked to make Paintings on “Tree for the Environmental Conservation”. After the on the spot painting competition, a Fancy Dress Competition was organised and in which around 15 students from different schools  (class I to IV) participated.

Popular Science Lecture on “Roles of youth in Environment Conservation” was delivered by Prof. M P Trivedi, Associate Professor, of Botany and Coordinator of Biotechnology, Patna Science College, Patna University. Prof. Trivedi informed the students about the major environmental problems and how to protect and conserve the Biosphere and save the environment. Students asked several questions on the related topic. After that Sudhakar Prasad, an environmental activist, and his team demonstrated the importance of eating different vegetarian foods.

World Environment Day is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries.The World Environment Day theme this year is “Zero Tolerance for the Illegal Wildlife trade”.
