Patna : World No 10 Kidambi Srikanth, 26, India, survived  scare before entering the second round of Toyoya Thailand Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 event, at Bangkok, Thailand, on July 31, 2019. Srikanth took 68 minutes to beat World No 96 Ren Peng Bo, 22, China, in a three-game thriller 21-13, 17-21, 21-19 in the first round at Indoor Stadium, Huamark, Bangkok.

Srikanth, the fifth seed, won the first game easily but thereafter Ren Peng Bo put up a strong up a strong fight winning the second game also leading 14-11 in the third game. Srikanth changed his strategy after that and started engaging Peng Bo in long rallies and winning points. The Indian made it to 15 all and kept mounting pressure on Peng Bo. Soon it was 19 all with Peng Bo serving. Srikanth won the next two points to win the match.

Srikanth won 59 rallies in the match to 53 by Peng Bo. The Indian won 7 consecutive points in the match to 8 by Peng Bo. It was the first meeting between the two players.

World No 31 H S Prannoy, 27, India, upset World No 27 Wong Wing Ki Vincent, Hong Kong,  in straight games 21-16, 22-20 in 46 minutes to advance to the 2nd round. Prannoy won 43 rallies in the match to 36 by Vincent. He won 5 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Vincent. Prannoy now leads Vincent 5-1 Head to Head.
