Patna : World No 41 Subhankar Dey, 26, India, entered the men’s singles second round of Toyota Thailand Open, an HSBC BWF Woorld Tour Super 500 tournament, at Bangkok, Thailand, after his first round opponent and World No 1 Kento Momota, 24, Japan, withdrew from the contest before the match giving him a walkover.

But, World No 44 Sourabh Verma, 26, India, lost to World No 16 and 7th seed Kanta Tsuneyama, Japan, in three-games in the first round. Tsuneyama beat Sourabh, a qualifier, 23-21, 19-21, 21-5 in 64 minutes to advance to the 2nd round. Tsuneyama won 63 rallies in the match to 47 by Sourabh. He won 9 consecutive points during the match to 4 by the India. It was the first meeting between the two players.

The winner of this tournament will get 9,200 points while the runner-up will get 7,800 points.
