Munger: Samajwadi Party (SP) workers and supporters on Tuesday paraded the streets of Munger carrying party banners and shouting slogans against Nitish government claiming it had failed on every front. The procession was taken out on the Kranti Diwas to pay respect to the martyrs of the country.

The processionists later on staged demonstration before the office of Divisional commissioner, Munger, and handed him over their six point demands that included establishment of a university at Munger, judicial inquiry into the death of Babita Devi, a pregnant mahadalit woman of Jamalpur who  died because she was not treated at Munger sadar hospital and was referred to JLN medical college hospital, Bhagalpur, but due to extreme poverty could not reach there in time as not even an ambulance was provided to her free of cost from the sadar hospital. A private agency had demanded Rs 2,500 for carrying her to Bhagalpur.

The  memorandum addressed to the Bihar Governor and submitted to the commissioner demanded that the civll surgeon,Munger, BDO, Jamalpur, and the branch manager Allahabad bank, Jamalpur, be booked by the police for the death of Babita. It also requested the Governor to scrap the new Excise Act in the interest of the people saying it was a draconian Act. SP district secretary Md Azam, Amar Shakti, Surendra Mahto, Ashok Bharat, Nakul Yadav, Anuj Kumar Suman, Md Jehangir and Rajkumar Sharma were prominent among those participaing in the demonstration.
