Munger: The RJD, one of the constituents of the Grand Alliance government headed by Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday  intensified its agitation for establishment of a university at Munger by staging a roadshow in the town on Kranti Diwas. Thousands of printed appeal adressed to CM Nitish Kumar emphasing on the need of a university at Munger  were distributed  amongst the people standing on both sides of the roads. Obviously, the chief minister was a soft target of attack as the leaders participating the roadshow reminded him of his promise made several times to open a university at Munger.

The college and high school students, teachers, lawyers and parents participated at roadshow organised by the district unit of the RJD under the banner of Vshwavidyalay Nirman Sangharsha Morcha. Pramod Yadav, Munger district RJD president and convenor of the Morcha led, the roadshow. The Morcha supporters paraded through the main thoroughfares of the town starting from the venue of  Azad Chowk with banners in their hands.

The printed appeal reminded the chief minister of his promises made to the people here several times about establishment of a university besides engineering and medical colleges at Munger and said he forgot all these promises when the cabinet was taking decision on the creation of  two new universities at Patna and Purnia recently.

Before the road show, the leaders of the Morcha garlanded all the statues of martyrs including Sardar Bhagat Singh and  Chandrashekhar Azad. Later on, the speakers including  former Bhagalpur university students union leader Naresh Prasad Yadav, Prof.Shabir Hassan, Pankaj Yadav, Mantoo Shrama, Sanjay Paswan, Prabhat Piyush, Arvind Kumar Yadav, Prem Kumar Yadav, Md Sunny, Ranjit Gupta, Dr Deokinandan and Sunil Mandal stressed on continuing the agitation till the demand was conceded.

“We have adopted model of ‘Jagriti’, an organisation that fought for about two decades for a rail-cum-road bridge across river Ganga between Munger and Khagaria which was fulfilled by the then prime minister A B Vajpayee . The rail-cum-road bridge was inaugurated on April 12 this year by junior  Rail  minister Manoj Sinha from Begusarai end,”said Pramod Yadav.
