Patna : South Africa beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in the first ODI at Diamond Oval, Kimberley, South Africa, on September 30, 2018. South Africa won the toss but opted to bowl. Zimbabwe were all out for 117 in 34.1 overs with captain Hamilton Masakadza scorin 25 and Elton Chigumbura scoring 27. Wellington Masakadza made 15. For South Africa, Lungisani Ngidi took 3/19 while Kagiso Rabada took 2/34 and Andile Pheklukwayo 2/22.

Chasing a target of 118 runs, South made 119/5 in 26.1 overs riding on 44 by wicketkeeper Heinrick Klaasen and 27 by opener Aidem Markram. Captain Jean Paul-Duminy remained unbeaten on 16 while Willem Mulder remained not out on 14. Opener Dean Elgar fell to Tendai Chatara for 2.

Ngidi was declared Man of the Match.
