Patna : South Africa (SA) defeated Pakistan by 9 wickets in the second test at  Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa, in the first session of the play on the 4th day of the test on January 6, 2019, to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match test series. South Africa have won their 7th successive series at home.

Set a target of just 41 runs, South Africa scored 43/1 in 9.5 overs. Opener Dean Elgar remained unbeaten on 24 with 4 fours while captain Faf du Plessis remained not out on 3. Theunis de Bruyn fell to fast bowler Mohammad Abbas for 4 while Hashim Amla retired on 2. Faf du Plessis, who had got a paid in the first test, was named Player of the Match for scoring 103 in the first innings.

South Africa had won the toss but opted to bowl. Batting first, Pakistan were all out for 177 in their first innings. In reply, South Africa scored 431 in their first innings. Pakistan were all out for 300 in their second innings leaving South Africa to score only 41 runs to win the match. For South Africa, Dale Steyn took 7 wickets in the match while Kagiso Rabada took 6 wickets.  Duanne Olivier took 5 wickets.
